WHY DID WE CHOOSE THIS TOPIC
We chose
this topic because our group thought that movies are one of the most common
media and it helps many people communicate with others because when people see
a movie the use to talk about the movie, and little kids use to play as they
were the main characters. We also chose movies because we like them a lot. We had lots of ideas for our presentation and
we thought that the topic of movies is affects many people many people, both
children and adults.
2.

2.3.
HOW IS MEDIA CONNECTED TO PEOPLE’S LIVES?
Media is connected with other´s people´s lives because everybody is
looking media at every time of the day just seeing TV or even watching a movie.
Media affect us because if someone sees a person following what media show us
that person is going to follow it and at the end is going to be a giant chain
of people following media.
Every coin has two sides. There are both
positives and negatives of one single given notion. The media, known as the
fourth pillar of democracy, has a huge impact on the society. The effects are
of course, positive as well as negative. It is upto the people to decide which
effect they want to bask in. Media is such a powerful tool that it literally
governs the direction of our society today. It is the propeller as well as the
direction provider of the society. Opinions can change overnight and
celebrities can become
infamous with just one wave by the media. Read how media affects the society
today by reading its effects.

INQUIRY
3.1
HOW MOVIES ARE CONNECTED TO PEOPLE’S LIFE?
Movies are connected to people’s lives in different ways. When you see a
movie, this affects your feelings: for example when you see a scary movie you
get nervous and scared and this affect your behavior towards certain things.
When you see a movie with a happy ending you sometimes cry and/or get happy, as
well as you sometimes cry when you see a movie of romance.
Movies are also connected to people’s life because when sometimes actors
do an action you also want to do it. Basically some people get connected with other
people because of movies. It is easy to find a group of people that like the
same movies and their behaviors tend to be similar and their feelings towards
the movie are the same. This leads to people getting together to create clubs
and enhances personal relations.
People always take decisions that they relate
to the actions for people in movies. This could lead to dangerous situations
for different people. People can take advantage of their creativity. There are some
cases that people lost their job so with their creativity they create a movie
or a comedy. Some people communicate through movies and share the same space.
Some movies are representations of the life of some important characters
in the history of the world. This kind of biographical movies are more
connected with the people because some characters look familiar in their lives
and they can relate to the main character’s life, and this might help people
solve their problems, by looking in the perspective of the character.
Some other movies represent tragedies that are seen in real life. Many
families and people have gone through situations like these and movies in this
case help people develop a new sense of empathy.
One of the most important tools in movies for helping create feelings in
the audience is the music. Soundtracks are important because they also create
feelings, whether they are songs with lyrics or instrumental things.
In general, movies affect people’s live because they are a window that
shows to the world all the feelings, characteristics expectations and thoughts
that people us to have in their lives. Some movies make people understand
better the things and make them have another perspective of what they used to
live, make them change their actions and make them feel that they are in a real
situation and make them live in a better way but sometimes not.
3.2.
WHAT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DIRECTOR AND ACTORS, AS PUBLIC FIGURES?
The actors and directors have a lot of responsibilities, but the most
important is that they are public personalities that are admired by people and
they set an example to society. For that reason they have to behave in all the
public events as they can transform the lives of many people or ruin it
according with their actions.
Some actors are very responsible with the kind of movies they make,
because they choose characters with some qualities that complement their lives,
and they try to represent as best as they can characteristic to be unique and
recognize. At the same time they have the opportunity to teach values and
morals through their actions, actions that people will repeat in similar
situations.
They also entertain, but in this sense, they have to educate people, and
should avoid representing scenes of violence, or drugs, to set an example.
Whatever they perform can affect children or teenagers, because these
celebrities are considered heroes and role models. This affects young people in
different ways like for example kids don’t know about certain things and
sometimes movies can make them understand things in a different way, another example is
that in some movies they show lots of violence so children may think that the
world is only violence, and might want to stay all day in their homes to fell
protected, also for example if little children see lots of violence movies when
they grow up or when they are still little they might act in a violent way and
these is not good for themselves and either to other people.
The creativity is an important ingredient in the movies. Some used
fiction, others science fiction and this gave us the opportunity to enjoy the
3D, the creativity has no limits and the stories can be represented in many
ways but with a responsible thought and criteria.
This affects young people in different ways like for example kids don’t
know about certain things and sometimes movies can make them understand things
in a different way, another example is that in some movies they show lots of
violence so children may think that the world is only violence, and might want
to stay all day in their homes to fell protected, also for example if little
children see lots of violence movies when they grow up or when they are still
little they might act in a violent way and these is not good for themselves and
either to other people.
It is important to represent history correctly because it is not good to
tell very bad examples of history like that in a nation where you have borne or
that it is very important for you many people killed lots of people, for
example if you want to investigate more about history you can do it through
movies, but if the creators of the movies tell a story that is not real or is
historically inaccurate, then you will learn a hole completely story and you
will be misinformed.
Directors and actors have an important job, because they are in a public
view and everything they do has a larger relevance in society and how people
(especially young people) act. For that reason they have the responsibility
towards the audience to act accordingly to the principles in life.
3.3
HOW MOVIES ARE CHANGING PEOPLE’S LIFESTYLE?
Movies are changing people’s
lifestyle in different ways, because they are so involved in the feelings of
the people that can produce changes in traditions like religions preferences or
costumes like food or celebrations, also modified the daily habits, exercise,
study, work or relax time, because some people are used to copy what they saw.
Other important aspect that can be
changed is the consumption habits; people start to buy unnecessary things and
finally the change of points of thinking or personality, people change the
behavior, and can be happy, violent, sad, curious, mysterious, etc.,
transforming his life mostly in a negative way apart of the values learned in
their lives.
Also it is changing people´s lifestyle
because sometimes movies tell fiction stories, but some people believed they
are real so they get scared and start believing fiction things and create in
their mind fantastic things and also generate some traumas.
Many people start buying things that
they see on a movie for example: clothes, toys, and electronically devices,
etc. People are buying these things because we are in consumerist society; this
means that people buy famous brands to identify themselves, because they
believe that the best brands are the ones that have a famous name or the ones
that a certain famous person uses. This moves economy, but people lose their
individuality by only focusing on having what everyone else has, instead of
buying things for their value and their own personal interests.
3.4
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW OF THE AUDIENCE THAT SEE MOVIES?
For some people, comedy movies are
fun, but others might think that they are boring or distasteful. Some people
think that scary movies are entertaining, but for other people scary movies
might just be horrible and violent. For some people, violent and war movies
teach things, but for others they are unnecessarily aggressive and only create
the same aggression in the people that see them. For some people movies with
happy endings are very beautiful, but for others not because they don’t believe
that’s the way real life is. Many people like nonfiction movies, because for
them nonfiction is very interesting, but for others not. Also many people like
fiction movies but others prefer nonfiction. As well many people like drama and
romantic movies, and others not.
3.5
WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF MOVIES?
One of
the functions of movies is to tell people things that they didn´t know, so they
are in a way, informative. These movies are called documentaries, and their
function is to communicate, discover and entertain. They also educate,
criticize, reveal, share real life stories, remark somebody´s achievements,
chronicle of history, among other things.
First we
are going to talk about the role of Discovery
Channel. These movies explain to people things that are unknown. Directors
spend a lot of money hiring airplanes so they can catch amazing pictures and
videos that catch people’s attention. Then they use those videos to look how
for example the animals live, and tend to be focused on informative tasks.
The
second function of movies is based on communication. Movies communicate things
to people by the actions they do, if they do the roll of a bad person then they
will transmit to the audience bad actions and things, but if they do very good
actions the audience is going to want to do the same good actions, also they
communicate things to people by the vocabulary they use, if they use a good
vocabulary then the audience is going to tell a good language, but if the
actors use a bad vocabulary then the audience is going to say a bad or disrespectful
vocabulary. Movies also transmit things
to the audience by the story that the movie tells, if the movie tells a happy
story then the audience is going to experiment happiness, but if the movie
tells about something sad then the actors are going to communicate sadness to
the audience.
The movies help people with the
situations that happened in real life, to understand people’s emotions, desires
and the feelings that sometimes we don’t accepted easily and is better to watch
it in a movie and realize that live is no easy and the situation are not
unique. The movies bring us different kind of memories such us happiness,
sadness, etc., from our childhood and from different moments of our life
connecting our feelings and memories with the movies.
The movies sometimes represent
situations that we feel that belong to us, considered private for us but
finally it is show in a big screen that develops our secret.
3.6
WHAT REACTION CAN MOVIES CAUSE ON PEOPLE?
Movies can cause diverse reactions
on people. These reactions are usually harmless, but there have been cases in
which a person is incited to be aggressive and violent because of what they saw
in a movie. For example, in 2012, a man saw the last part of the Batman trilogy
(The Dark Knight Rises). He was
traumatized, he bought guns and, in the premier of the movie he killed 12
people at the movie theater, but that incident was not all fault of the movie,
it was also fault of that man, another problem is the ¨ratings¨ of the movies
because children don´t respect them and that can be a problem when they grow
up.
Other of the reactions that movies
can cause on people is that when the movies make fun and mock other movies. In
a sense, this is not harmful, but in some cases some movies make fun and
ridicule of peoples thinking and religions. In those cases, it is evident how
important it is to respect other cultures and the movie industry should be
careful on what kind of mockery certain people do. A couple of years ago, some
people made a movie that made fun of Mohamed and Isla. Muslims were offended,
and they went to the place where they did the movie and the broke almost
everything.
3.7
DO MOVIES REFLECT PEOPLE’S LIVES?
Movies reflect
people’s life, since movies, like other art expressions are use to show what
the artist thinks about his/her life or other’s life.
Through
movies, people can express many ideas and thoughts about their lives, or events
from the life of other people, countries, or groups. Movies can reflect and
portray specific moments of a person life or an important historical
event. Even daily life can be reflected
on a movie, so the audience will have the opportunity to learning more about
life in different countries, cultures of moments in time.
Many
movies are based in real life stories, facts, moments or events, but it is
possible also to think that even a movie that tells a fiction story can reflect
somebody’s fears or dreams, and in that order of ideas that would also show
that movies can reflect on that person’s life. There is an interesting idea
about how art reflects life and how life reflects art, and we think that this
paragraph supports our point of view, considering movies are an artistic
expression:
“Art reflects whatever the artist thinks or feels. Since both of these
things are based on his/her life, then it would be fair to say that creations
of art can reflect a part of someone's life. Movies, which tell the story based
on real life events, songs, plays, musical compositions can all be inspired by
real life events. In that sense art can reflect life”
3.8
IN WHAT FORM MOVIES AFFECT THE WORLD?
We think that movies are not only entertainment, but also form of
education that allows the audience to learn experiences from others. It is
important to be responsible with the movies you want to see in order to receive
good content; but it doesn’t always happen. The tragedy in United States was in
the movie Batman affected not only the family of the people involved, but also
generated a reject to the violence and the bearing of guns; that in U.S.A are
so common.
Sad movies can create depression
in the audience, which could lead to the decision to kill themselves or to
commit a crime. There is a reason there is a Rating that limits the content of
the movies for certain people. This is why it is important to have a criteria
when you see a movie, respecting the PG guidelines that limits the ages allowed
in the audience, so the audience is aware of line between reality and fiction.
Movies affect the world not
only in a bad way. They are a reflection of the society that has different
problems such us corruption, drugs or terrorism showing that the legal system
is not able to control the situations. Movies affect the world in a positive
way, they have showed how can be managed some situations such us Natural
Disasters, attacks or illnesses; showing the partnership and solidarity that is
necessary in this world.
Movies have developed and had an impact in the world, some of them
showed the cellphone when it didn´t exist, or some airplanes have been created
according to the movies, holograms, touch screens, Skype, these are forms of
technology that existed in movies, before than real life.
4. CONCLUSIONS
4.1 WHAT WE USED TO THINK?
Mariana: I used to
think that also publisity have something in common with movies and media
because it affect peoples points of vew also with a story that present peoples
live in different ways.
Jorge Mario: I used to think that movies coudn´t make a
big reaction to people i also thought that movies coudn´t gide people to
serious consecuences, not always bad but sometimes good and in some extreamly
cases one of the consecuences is dead.
Isabella: I used to
think that movies could affect people in different ways because in some movies
people show things that the audience doesnt like but i also thought that some
movies could help people to take bad or good decisons in different cases.
Felipe: I used to think
that movies could affect to people that are obssesed to movies but not to
natural people or people with scicological problems.
4.2
WHAT WE KNOW NOW?
As you can see, movies are a big
part of what is media. Now we know that movies as media can affect people’s
thinking’s, feelings, and emotions. As well as we discovered what reactions
movies have on people. We noticed some are extremely dangerous, but movies also
show good things about people and life.
We understand now that people express their feelings through movies and
that people that do the movies not always do them for getting money out of it.
They also do it to show people what they feel, or they show them real life
stories of them or other people.
4.3
ACTION PLAN
